Why are some babies born with hair and other have none?
A friend of mine asked me this question today. I didn't know the scientific answer, so I decide to do some research to educate myself on the proper reason. I visited a few sites and was surprised that there wasn't more information on this topic. However I did learn a few things in the process.
Babies hair growth patterns are based on genetics, ethnicity, and hormones. Whether your baby is born with a head full of hair or only a few strands, growth pattern change within the first year of birth. It's not uncommon for babies to experience hair loss in the first year. This is due to them spending excessive amounts of time of their backs. Most babies have that infamous bald spot in the back of their head because of the friction from infant bedding, car seats, swings, etc. The hair loss will come to a halt as the child spends more time upright.
When new hair starts to come in (as early as 6 month and as late as late toddler-hood) it will be a different texture, color or both. When the new hair comes in, it's important to care for the hair gently as it is fragile. If you aren't careful you can damage the hair before it has a chance to grow in completely. Barrettes, rubber bands, harsh products, and braids can cause damage to a babies hair. Keep in mind that a babies hair should only be shampooed twice a week and if African American then once a week. You want to preserve whatever amount of natural oils they produce as it is limited.

If you are wondering if your baby will grow hair, they will eventually. Every baby is different, hair growth pattern differ on a case by case bases. Doctors say that there is a correlation between heartburn and hair growth. By the fifth month of pregnancy the fetus has started to grow hair and by the last four weeks, hair thickens as he/she prepares for birth. A study was done that showed that women with elevated levels of estrogen had babies with more hair than those with lower levels. Hormones in babies dramatically drops after birth which is also a determinant in loss of hair.

Make sure as a parent you are doing your part to make sure your child is retaining a head of healthy hair even if its minimal.

Relaxed Hair does NOT =Limp Hair
In most cases relaxed hair is often dry and limp. The reason for this is because the hair is over-processed. Most people were brain washed early on that they needed to have a relaxer to get their hair straight. A large number of women that wear shorter styles require relaxed hair, but women with medium to long hair can either go without or have it no more than a few times a year. The objective is to soften the curl pattern, not strip natural texture. When you notice that hair is dry and brittle its because all natural texture has been stripped. Hair should have body and sheen with or without a relaxer. If your hair is limp, dull, or damaged it's a pretty good indication that it's over-processed. If you are having this issue you should see a professional that can properly treat your hair to stop breakage. The link below is an image of what your hair should NOT look like after a relaxer.

Micro Bead Extensions
Micro bead extensions have been around for a few years now. Its a great alternative to clip-in extensions, bonding, or sew in extensions. There are a couple of different ways these extensions can be applied. The first way is using hair on a weft and the second way is individual keratin tipped hair. This is a technique that just about anyone can achieve. Its non damaging if done correctly. It's great for people that need a little fullness or even length throughout. Micro bead extensions can last up to 3-4 months. I have provided a link below to show you how the individual extensions are applied. In the pictures are the micro bead extensions on a weft.

You're never too young to... WHIP YO HAIR!!!
I have a few kids that have been clients since they were toddlers. Its very important to start taking care of hair at an early age. The way your hair is maintained during your youth has a huge impact on how your hair will be as an adult. Its not essential that a kid have their hair done every 2 weeks, but monthly maintenance is a must. Hair should be treated as well as trimmed every 6-8 weeks.

Extensions-Full Sew in weave with a silk closure
Want to wear a full sew in, but don't want the wiggy look? Well it can be achieved multiple ways and one of them is by using a silk closure. This allows you to have a natural part. You can part your hair in any direction. There are various sites where this closure can be ordered from. It can be used repeatedly depending on how well you maintain it.

The hair journey of Ashley Nicole by Serena J.
As women many of us go through stressful times in our lives, and in turn it has an effect on our hair. Stress=hair loss There are many factors that causes breakage. The number one cause is "STRESS".
2) Neglecting to trim ends 3) Lack of moisture 4) Need of reconstruction (treatment) 5) What your sleeping on (cotton pillow case, bandanna, etc...)
If your not resting your head on satin then you need to start. Satin keeps the moisture in.
Ashley Nicole is a regular client and in her case the breakage was gradual. It started in the back left corner of her head and then began to spread. She decided to get a haircut and start over. The cut wasn't quite what she expected, so in turn she decided to get extensions to allow her hair to grow back in. So she came and I treated her hair and then gave her sew in extensions. Every 3 months for a year she came and I would give her a treatment, then a trim and sew in her extensions. After a year she has beautiful, natural, healthy hair.
