Wedding Wednesday... Show-Stopping, Sultry Hair!

Last night was the GQ awards took place in London. Kim Kardashian "West" (and Don't you forget that!) stole the show in her body hugging Ralph and Russo couture look, which she paired with Tom Ford heels.
I noticed her hair initially. It was by far the sexiest hairstyle that I've seen her wear. The sultry
side-swept bang with the voluminous soft waves was jaw-dropping. No wonder Kanye couldn't keep his hands to himself. She was a knockout!
I love how her hair didn't take away from her overall look. However it still made a statement.
Hair can make or break a look. That's why it's important to have the right look for your wedding day. You want your husband-to-be, to look at you like "Damn that's my woman, I'm a lucky man". It's kind of the same feeling you get when a man has a fresh haircut and fresh shave. I don't know about you but for me that's enough to stop me in my tracks. I love a well-groomed man, especially a confident one.
For a woman hair shouldn't overpower your face but it should frame it. A subtle amount of volume and body goes a long way. When you are deciding what look is best for you on your wedding day, step out of your box a little and try something different. You just may like it!

Wedding Wednesday....Love Winns

Over the holiday weekend I was blessed to partake in a ceremony that was near and dear to my heart. My beautiful cousin Lauren K. Hornes became Lauren K.Winn.
I have rode this year long wedding-planning rollercoaster with her and we both still have hair on our heads.
Even though at some points I wanted to say a few things, I remained mum because I knew it was because of stress that she was acting like Cruella Deville.
I was amazed how everything turned out and the outpouring of love that they received on their special day.
Prior to getting engaged Lauren told me that she wanted me to be apart of bridal party so it was no surprise to me when she 'Told' me I was going to be a bridesmaid. Not only did she tell me I was going to be a bridesmaid but she also told me that I was going to do her hair.
 I didn't argue with her demands, because I love her.
I accepted my double-role as bridesmaid and her wedding hairstylist.
July 5, 2014... The wedding day, I relied upon visuals from 'Pinterest. As I've mentioned in previous post, I love 'Pinterest' because of the inspiration that I get time and time again from it. I like that I can get inspiration so that I can create my own style. It never looks exactly the same as the picture. That's the beauty of being an artist. There are no 2 artists' that are the same. It was also the plan for her to have 2 different hairstyles for her wedding day so I created 2 updo looks. They looked pretty similar but they were different. I like soft updos because you can get 2 hairstyles out of one. If you want the option to wear it down after the wedding you can because it's not a ton of product in the hair.
I get alot of hair inspiration for brides when I see their dress. The cut of the dress matters in the type of hairstyle you choose.
I still stand by the advice to get a hair trial prior to your wedding day. You don't want to be upset about your hair on that day it's already stressful enough.

Wedding Wednesday... A Barn-Style Wedding

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of styling hair for a beautiful bride named Alix. After months of trial appointments, she decided to wear a classic and sleek bun. We went through 6 variations of bun styles and decided on a simple look.
Her wedding dress had alot of detail and she didn't want her hair to be a distraction.
Again this is why trial appointments are extremely important. It really takes the stress away, at least when it comes to hair. That day is already emotionally draining, you want to have as many things in place as possible.
Something else that's really important is, when you seek out vendors, make sure you get people who are professional and accommodating to your needs. Everyone is not going to be as nice as you would like, everyone isn't going to go above and beyond to make sure that your needs are met. This is when having great vendors really matter. It makes all the difference in making sure things go smoothly on your wedding day.
I'm pretty patient and I make sure that I do my best to accommodate my clients. It's not always easy but it's worth it. You don't let anyone disrespect you however  you want to make people comfortable.

Alix had a barn-style wedding, which had a rustic feel. Her guest ate BBQ and had the opportunity to take-in beautiful country views.

Wedding Wednesday...Heatless hairstyles Fine hair edition.

I have had many clients over the years that have struggled with thinning hair. Everyone isn't born with thick hair. It could be genetic or it can stem from growth being stunted early in life. It's very important to not damage your hair follicle because once the follicle is damaged hair won't grow in those areas. Some people's hair have been thin from a young age while others hair my be thin because of chemical or heat damages.
So whether your hair is damaged or natural thin, I'm going to show you a few styles that you can achieve on those days that you don't have any business using heat. If your hair is thin, you have to be more fragile with it comes to your hair because you need to preserve as much hair as possible. There are products that are geared for thin or fine hair.

Nioxin is one of my favorite products for hair. Especially fine or thinning hair. 

If your hair is fine or thin, this is the product for you. I know many clients have asked me about 'hairfinity' but I have no idea if that products works. People have said that they have experienced hair growth but I personally think it's great marketing and branding. I would never discourage anyone from trying it because it may actually work.
I went to my go to place for visuals, Pinterest and found a few looks for you ladies that have fine hair. When you have fine hair , you have to shampoo your hair more often because it gets oily faster than normal to coarse hair.

Wedding Wednesday... Effortless Wedding Day Hair

As I reflected about today's topic, I imagined myself being on a sunny, white-sand and
clear blue-watered island. I thought about a stress-free bride, frolicking on the beach with her husband celebrating their newly consecrated union.
I envisioned the sun reflecting off of her effortless but beautiful hair, her laughing as she played up and down the shoreline with her Mr.Right.
Ahh...What a beautiful sight!
Most brides spend multiple hours as well as large amounts of money on hair and make-up for their wedding day.
Not suggesting that it's a bad idea, just stating the facts. However there are some brides that take a more minimalistic approach.
They do their own hair and makeup, because at the end of the day beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The beholder is your husband-to-be. I've learned over the years that most men can care less about how extravagant you wear your hair. They don't even notice half the time what you do with your hair. It has to be a drastic difference, for example going from waist-long hair to a bob or going from super curly hair to straight. Other than that, they don't notice (There are always exceptions, In which case you may way to raise an eyebrow.
Effortless wedding day hair can be achieved with little or no cost to you. Effortless hair is perfect for a beach ceremony. You want to have a hairstyle that is minimal because it will usually be warm (humid)  and or windy.
There are so many beautiful natural styles. I just love all the creativity that can be achieved through hair. It really is artistic expression. I love being a Tress Artist.

Golden Globes 2014... Best Hair

I compiled my favorite hairstyles from the Golden Globes. Let me just say it wasn't the best year for hair. I feel that the majority went with understated hairstyles. I don't think that was a bad thing, just unexpected. I predicted sleek ponytails, big soft curls and soft waves. The looks that I predicted were minimal on the red carpet.
I could appreciate understated hair if the dress is making the statement but....that wasn't the case. I was able to sift through and pick my Top 11 (Random right?! I couldn't decide so...11 it is! ha!) favorite hairstyles.
